Ryan McCollum: owner of Worldwide Wingshooter

Ryan McCollum has been immersed in the world of wingshooting from a young age, starting out with quail and dove hunts alongside his father and friends. His early passion led him to guide quail hunts in Southern Illinois during his high school years. This experience paved the way for his enrollment in the Shooting Complex Management program at Southeastern Illinois College (SIC),taught by Bruce Hering where he graduated as a National Sporting Clays Association (NSCA) certified shooting instructor.

During his time in the program, Ryan completed a year-long internship at a prominent ranch in South Texas, where he gained in-depth experience in both wingshooting and deer hunting. He later went on to manage a prestigious wingshooting lodge in Southern California, focusing on quail, pheasant, and chukar hunts.

An exciting opportunity took him to Mexico, where he worked for four seasons in the renowned hunting regions of Tamaulipas. Determined to master the local language, Ryan committed to becoming fluent in Spanish, graduating from a full-immersion program in Costa Rica and continuing his studies at Southern Illinois University (SIU) between hunting seasons. His Spanish fluency has been invaluable, helping him build strong relationships with local outfitters and discover new, untouched hunting opportunities.

During his time at SIU, Ryan also pursued his passion for fly fishing, attending a guide school in Montana, which led to his role as an Orvis-endorsed fishing guide in Alaska. He later combined his love for wingshooting, fishing, and Spanish to establish his own operation in the Yucatán, Mexico, offering quail, duck, and tarpon fishing expeditions. This endeavor gave him a deep understanding of the region and its unique sporting opportunities.

In the early 2000s, Ryan expanded his horizons further by relocating to Paraguay, where he worked for Erland von Sneidern in both Bolivia and Paraguay, managing wingshooting operations for doves and pigeons. After Erland’s passing, Ryan took on the responsibility of overseeing these operations, ensuring the highest standards of service and client satisfaction.

Ryan then launched his own operation in Bolivia, specializing in dove, pigeon, and peacock bass fishing for six successful years. During this time, he married a Bolivian woman and became the proud father of three wonderful children. His career has taken him to premier wingshooting destinations across the globe, including the USA, Argentina, Paraguay, Mexico, Nicaragua, Romania, and beyond.

Today, as the owner of Worldwide Wingshooter, Ryan draws on his extensive experience to offer top-tier wingshooting destinations and personalized consulting services to enthusiasts worldwide. Clay Whitfill: Wingshooting Consultant

Growing up along the Texas Gulf Coast, Clay discovered a passion for wing shooting while joining his father on dove and quail hunts in South Texas. These early experiences on a corporate hunting lease and entertaining customers introduced him to the world of sporting pursuits and set him on a path to become a skilled hunting and fishing guide.

Pursuing this dream, he enrolled at Sul Ross State University in Alpine, Texas, where he earned a degree in Wildlife Management. After graduation, Clay honed his skills on various private ranches in deep South Texas, managing and guiding hunts for whitetail deer, exotics, dove, and quail. His career then took him into the oil and gas industry, eventually moving into a sales role in Wyoming due to his exceptional people skills and customer service.

Following his time in the oilfield, Clay joined a Texas-based land and wildlife management company specializing in wildlife and agricultural exemptions for private landowners, gaining expertise in land conservation and stewardship. Alongside his professional journey and having hunted all over Texas, he developed a love for international wing shooting and fishing, with expeditions across Argentina, Bolivia, Panama, Costa Rica, and Mexico, pursuing a range of species from doves, ducks, and perdiz to red stag and exotic fish like roosterfish and peacock bass.

Currently based in Costa Rica, Clay also owns and operates a travel company there, merging his love for adventure with his extensive industry knowledge. Driven by a personal goal to hunt doves in as many countries as possible, Clay has set his sights on Nicaragua, Paraguay, and Uruguay for his next adventures. He has also served as the U.S. representative for various Argentinian outfitters, leveraging his knowledge and experience to connect fellow hunters with world-class sporting opportunities.

In his free time, Clay enjoys shooting sporting clays, and is an active member of the National Sporting Clays Association. His greatest accomplishment was winning the 2020 combined sub gauge National Championship in the AA Class and being named a Third team All American in 410
