Uruguay Giant Golden Dorados
A total of twenty three (23) IFGA baitcasting and fly fishing world records were broken in various categories. The All-Tackle World Record was broken twice. The second fish was so large it reigns supreme now for more than a decade!
Expect over 20 dorados for each of the only two authorized boats allowed in this private fishery. A third of those fish should weigh more than 15 pounds!
World’s Best Habitat with No Fishing Pressure.
Back in 2013, the outfitter acquired the rights at a public auction for the exclusive right to use the only two boats for the Uruguay River Tailwaters. The large amount of food being flushed through the dam’s turbines coupled with a superabundance of oxygen due to the whirling of the turbines, creates a uniquely rich, Jurassic-like environment presided over by outsized apex-predator dorados that just get larger and larger as they age in staggering numbers .
The Tailwater lodging is 500 yards from the fishery but, most importantly, it also finds itself in the perfect mixed-bag location where partridge (perdiz) cover is abundant, where pigeon grain fields are everywhere, where ponds & lagoons full of duck, and dove roosts are just a short drive away on good roads. And, none better than River Plate’s 35-year experience to replicate the high level of service that we offer throughout our 9 world-class wing shooting lodges.
We can easily combine a long week’s fishing of Dorado with Amazon Peacock Bass for the true Tropical Fish Grand Slam.

BRAZIL PEACOCK BASS
This outfitter offers exclusive access to nine private rivers, ensuring zero fishing pressure and no human interference.
Experience prime peacock bass fishing in a vast, 1,000 x 600-mile expanse, focusing only on honey holes and hotspots. Fish precisely selected sections of these private rivers at optimal times, guided by ongoing water level and weather monitoring.
Our unique River Trains, with their shallow draft, access remote areas beyond natural barriers like sandbars and rapids—waters unreachable by larger boats or yachts. This means more habitat for giant peacocks and hundreds of miles of pristine fishing territory.
With short travel times of just 5 to 20 minutes between fishing spots, you can fish longer and cover more water. While you’re casting, the River Train relocates to fresh, untouched areas, ensuring an uninterrupted, world-class fishing experience.
Arrive by floatplane directly to the River Train, eliminating long riverboat journeys and maximizing your time on the water.
Enjoy a comfortable stay in spacious, 270-square-foot, single-occupancy cabins, equipped with all the essential amenities. Relax in the close-knit, intimate setting of a small camp, typically hosting just 6 to 8 anglers.
Plus, low water levels, high tannin content, and the River Train’s continuous movement help keep biting insects at bay, making your fishing adventure even more enjoyable.
